Nestled between the lovely mountain range of Annapurna, Machhapuchhre and Manaslu,  Ghale Gaun is a popular tourist destination with a lot to offer to its visitors. It is a village of indigenous Gurung community where we can stay in a variety of homestays and motels. In comparison to other villages in rural Nepal, Ghale Gaun is a developed village.

Trip to Ghale Gaun

 The ride from Besisahar is a little off-road, but exciting. The kind hosts who will make you feel at ease throughout your visit. Locally grown potatoes are the staple food crop obtained there, which is consumed by boiling, smoked and the tarkari here cannot get any better. 

The mouthwatering breakfast of Kodoko Selroti (Millet chapatis), satisfies the stomach.

The kind hospitality of the locals makes the trip even more memorable. You can also go Mad Honey hunting with the villagers if we go during the right season, which is around the month of Jestha. Lamjung District is well known for its Mad honey and Sane honey. The mad honey searching may necessitate an additional 3-4 days on your vacation.

Trip to Bhujung Village

Another community, Bhujung Village, is close to Ghale Gaun which is a 2.5-hour hike from the trailhead. We observed herds of buffalo swimming in the ponds created by the waterfalls along the path. If you’re lucky, you might be able to find one for yourself to swim in. 

Right before entering the Bhujung Village, you observe the magnificent tea garden which serves wonderfully good tea to all of the households in the area. Bhujung village is also a Gurung community. The hosts make us feel like we’re a member of their family making our stay much better by their happiness and friendly demeanour. 

The two beautiful villages of Lamjung are bound to take your breath away. A two-night, three-day journey is ideal for completing this trip because we can see most of the sights in that time. We can also reach Dudh Kunda if we walk for four days from Ghale Gau, which is a separate trek.

Route to Ghale Gau and Bhujung Village 

The easiest route to get to Ghale Gau and Bhujung village would be taking a bus to Besisahar, Lamjung. If you’re lucky, you’ll be able to find jeeps that leave about 4 p.m. every day. If a route car is unavailable, we can reserve one for ourselves. 

The journey from Besisahar to Ghale Gau takes about 3 hours via jeep. At Ghale Gau, we spend the night. From the lookout tower in Ghale Gau, we can see a stunning dawn and the Himalayan Range the next day. We can proceed to Bhujung Village after wandering around Ghale Gau and visiting the residences there.

The cost of this vacation for one person, excluding extra personal expenses, was approximately: 

Jeep Fare — Rs. 400/- (from Besisahar to Ghale Gau). 

Ghale Gau charges Rs. 500 for bed and breakfast. 

Bhujung Village charges Rs. 600/- for bed and breakfast. 

Jeep Fare (Rs. 500/- from Bhujung Village to Besisahar) 

The cost of a bus ticket from Besisahar to Kathmandu is Rs. 800.
